After a crazy few weeks of transfer portal mania, draft declarations and everything in-between, it looks like we finally know what most of the Michigan State roster will look like next year. The Spartans recently gained the commitment of Frankie Fidler, transfer from Omaha. Fidler averaged 20 points per game this year at Omaha. He has an innate ability to get to the free throw line. This is something the Spartans need after losing their top 3 scorers this year. Although Fidler is a great addition, he was the only transfer portal addition. Going into next season with Carson Cooper as the starting center is rough. Guys like Jeremy Fears Jr. and Tre Holloman will have much expanded roles in the back court. Xavier Booker looks like he is slotted to start at PF for the Spartans next season. If Booker makes a 2nd year leap like players have done so often under Izzo, watch out. Here is what the roster is looking like as of now:
Starters:
PG- Jeremy Fears
SG- Jaden Akins
SF- Frankie Fidler
PF- Xavier Booker
C- Carson Cooper
Bench: Kur Teng, Jase Richardson, Gherig Normand, Coen Carr, Jaxon Kohler, Jesse McCulloch.
As things stand right now, Michigan State is #16 in the Torvik 2025 projected rankings. Torvik is a system used by many in the college basketball world that uses advanced stats to see where a team stands for next season. This puts together stuff such as stats from players lost, players gained and recruiting classes to give an outlook on next season.
It is now a new era of Michigan State Basketball, only 1 starter will be the same next year after bringing back 4 of the same starters this past year. Honestly, I think this is exactly what the program needs. It was too much of the same old these past few years. As much as I loved the senior group, they seemed to lack accountability. The same stuff would happen every year with them. I think Jeremy Fears Jr. is the perfect floor general for this team. After a year of resting and recovering from being shot during the season I think Fears will have that mamba mentality to dominate. It is going to be Jaden Akins’ team next year and I’m excited to see him move into that leader role. Akins comes off as a quiet guy to me but I think he’s got it in him to lead this team.
I will leave you with 2 words, GO GREEN!
