This past Saturday, February 3rd I was able to attend the Spartan’s game against the Maryland Terrapins. Although I attended Michigan State for 1 year I was never able to attend a game. As soon as I was inside I could feel the energy and shortly found where I could pick up the 2 beers I’m allowed to purchase(I’m 21). The seats that my friend and I had were great. They were behind the net but up high enough where you could still see everything on both ends. MSU had already beat Maryland on the road which is very hard to do in college basketball so I went into this game expecting a dominant Michigan State win. Although Michigan State won and covered the spread of -6.5, it was far from dominant. The game felt like pretty much every MSU game from the last 4 years. The Spartans started off strong led by senior guard Tyson Walker who was cooking early by hitting some of his patented mid range pull ups. MSU took a 4 point 31-27 lead into half-time after an ugly first half. Unfortunately I did not catch a T shirt during the halftime show, but now it was time for the 2nd half. Like I said before this game felt like the average Michigan State game from the past few years. This would mean that Maryland is going to go on a run and soon enough they did. The Terps gained a short lead at 43-42 which was fueled due to some hot shooting of Donta Scott along with the incompetent defense and rebounding of Michigan State. Starting center for the Spartans, Mady Sissoko, continues to be a liability on the glass. It seems like he drops every single rebound which leads to second chance opportunities for teams. From my view it seem like MSU was also not able to defend the high pick and roll that Maryland was running to get Donta Scott open. At this point Izzo was fed up and called a timeout. Whatever Izzo said in that timeout worked because Michigan State finally started to look like they should in the final 8 minutes of the game. The Spartans were turning defense into offense. Forward Malik Hall was getting to his spot on the block with ease and hitting his signature spin move for buckets. Hall led the Spartans with 19 points and 7 rebounds on Saturday. As the title says, an ugly win is still a win. I really enjoyed my time in East Lansing this weekend seeing some friends along with a Spartans W. The Spartans next game is this Tuesday, February 6th at 9PM @ Minnesota on the B10 Network.

The view I had for Saturday’s matchup.
